The Advocate
The Advocate approached me,
An offer for to steal;
I said “I’m on the payroll,”
But don’t answer that throne’s weal...
I gave the dog a biscuit,
Keep skin stretched on the bone;
He laid out my Savior’s body,
Before that dirty throne...
Oh my Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord...
Oh my Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord.
I paid all the service,
Faithful lips can stand;
Then tears streamed down my ashen face,
Where was the promised land...
The depth of my betrayal,
Is just now sinking in;
A stranger to the faces,
Who count me their kin...
Oh Dear Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord...
Oh Dear Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord.
No-one knows their neighbor,
A mine-field which we sow;
Church itself a battleground,
Damned even if we go...
There is a path, this trackless waste,
I seek to find and grow:
Where the Advocate’s my Brother -
And Love we surely know.
Oh Sweet Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord...
Oh Sweet Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord.
Oh Dear Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord...
Oh Dear Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord.
Oh my Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord...
Oh my Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord.
Oh my Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord.
